Brazilian Jiu-jitsu Dojo Directory & Guide

Brazilian Jiu-jitsu schools, dojos, in Japan - About Brazilian Jiu-jitsu:

Brazilian jiu-jitsu's creation is usually credited to Mitsuyo Maeda, who immigrated to Brazil in the 1920's and taught jiu-jitsu to Carlos Gracie. Brazilian jiu-jitsu evolved into its own distinct style, incorporating techniques influenced by the tough big cities like Rio de Janeiro. Brazilian jiu-jitsu emphasizes ground fighting implementing takedowns, chokes, and joint locks, Most Brazilian jiu-jitsu martial artists want to take the fight to the ground, as opposed to stand-up striking of other fighting arts. Brazilian jiu-jitsu gained world wide recognition with the inception of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in 1993. Royce Gracie ended up shocking the martial arts world by submitting and defeating his opponents regardless of their size, style or experience. Brazilan jiu-jitsu continues to evolve with the help of other famous black belts such as Jean Jauques and Rigan Machado, Mario Sperry and BJ Penn.
